Impact Ventures Set To Launch Startup Accelerator Focused On Empowering Women & Minorities in North Texas
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE —
DALLAS, TX, September 2nd, 2019 — Impact Ventures, is set to kick off North Texas’s first minority focused startup accelerator program in March 2020. Applications to participate in the 12-week accelerator have opened and will close November 22nd, 2019. Impact Ventures, formerly Impact House, is a nonprofit organization dedicated to creating diverse and inclusive tech ecosystems in North Texas and beyond. Impact Ventures aims to close the income and wealth gap for women and minorities through tech career pathways, inclusive entrepreneurship, and capital investment.
Founded in 2017, Impact Ventures has been laying the foundation for creating inclusive tech ecosystems for underrepresented communities looking to break into the tech industry. With the presence of tech growing in places like Atlanta and Detroit, Impact Ventures believes Dallas has all of the ingredients to be the next tech hotbed for minority professionals and entrepreneurs due to its robust corporate community and skilled labor force, affordable cost of living, and business friendly tax benefits.
“As of 2018, just 2% of minorities received venture capital funding, 2% of minorities are represented in the tech industry workforce, and there’s projected to be over 1M open tech jobs by 2020. Due to the sheer size of North Texas, we believe we play an integral role in closing these opportunity gaps.” — Benjamin J. Vann, Impact Ventures Founder & CEO
Impact Venture’s 12wk accelerator program takes a unique approach to training and development combining the traditional 1-on-1 mentorship models with the power and influence of corporate human capital. Corporations participate in “rapid-problem solving hacks” that allow participants to develop new or refine current service offerings within their startups in an open, interactive, and culture current environment. The program also features a guided online curriculum supplemented with local and national guest speakers, workshop facilitators, mentors, and venture fellows sourced from local universities. Participating startups are offered a suite of business perks through global partnerships like Microsoft for Startups, HubSpot for Startups, and Village Capital to name a few. The program also offers discounted services with local partners in the areas of marketing and branding, artificial intelligence, insurance, and co-working valued at over $125K as well as access to Impact’s corporate and inclusive capital network.
Impact Ventures is currently working with angel investors, athletes, local and national VC firms, foundations, and banks to provide capital investment for participating startups.
